Al Pacino leaves the Game Awards 2022 crowd in hysteria with a bold video game claim

Al Pacino left the Game Awards crowd in hysterics after a surprise performance at the ceremony.

The Hollywood star of films including The Godfather, dog day afternoon and scarface was an unexpected presence at Thursday’s (8 December) event.

After Pacino was brought onto the stage by host Geoff Keighley, viewers seemed shocked that the Oscar winner had turned up for the ceremony, which is essentially the video game Academy Awards.

“It’s really nice to see you here,” said Pacino, 82, after taking the stage, adding, “This is an experience for me.”

The crowd laughed at this, and Pacino continued, “[It’s] one I wasn’t expecting, so here I am, as always, doing surprising things for myself.”

But Pacino admitted he had trouble seeing the autocue, saying, “Anyway, it might come as a shock to you, but I … It’s hard for me to see the teleprompter.”

As he finished his sentence, Pacino made a bold claim while standing in front of a room full of celebrities from the video game world.

“The truth is, I don’t play a lot of video games,” he said, adding, “But I’ve spent a lot of time watching my kids play.”

Pacino then presented Christopher Judge with the award for Best Performance of the Year God of War Ragnarok who, before giving his speech, patted the actor on the shoulder and hugged him.

The moment was praised by viewers, with video game editor, writer and consultant Arthur Gies calling it “fucking amazing.”

Pacino will next appear in the second season of the Prime Video series Hunterscheduled for release on January 13th.

In 2019, the actor starred in The Irishmana gangster epic that marked his first collaboration with director Martin Scorsese.

While promoting the film, Pacino narrated The Independent that he would consider starring in a film adaptation of Michael Mann’s novel heat 2which focuses on the younger version of characters he and Robert De Niro played in the 1995 film.

To do this, Pacino said, he can “get younger” by using the de-aging technology currently being used in Hollywood to make older actors look like their younger selves. The next high profile film to do this will be Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyin which Harrison Ford will return as an adventurer.

While Ford will play the role in the present, the actor shot new scenes as a younger version of the character in a flashback sequence. The film will be released on June 30, 2023.
