Round 16 is underway.
Group stage of Africa Cup of Nations came to a dramatic end last week when defending champions Algeria were knocked out by Ivory Coast.
The round of 16 begins on Sunday when Burkina Faso takes on Gabon, before Nigeria faces Tunisia in Cameroon.
Burkina Faso shaved over
Burkina Faso failed to make it through AFCON 2019 but has now found herself in the quarterfinals of this year’s tournament.
In a match where the referee shouted 13 times and showed a red card, an own goal by Burkina Faso in the 91st minute forced them to pay a penalty.
Ismahila Ouedraogo scored a successful penalty against Gabon to help Burkina Faso advance with a 7-6 penalty shootout win.
Relief to Aston Villa’s Bertrard Traore, who missed a penalty in the first half before scoring the opening goal after half an hour.
Tunisia is annoying
Tunisia got a surprise win over Nigeria on Sunday that saw Keleechi Iheanacho, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi return Premier League.
Tunisia took the lead early in the first half before Iwobi blushed – making Nigeria’s task all the more difficult.
Tunisia will face Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals on Saturday January 29.
The house odds
AFCON Host Cameroon is the most appreciated team and will face Comoros in the round of 16 today.
