A Massachusetts man was charged Saturday after the death of his mother, whose body is believed to have been set on fire outside a Cape Cod home.

Adam Howe, 34, has been charged with murder after authorities said evidence suggested the victim set on fire was his mother Susan Howe, Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe and the Truro Police Chief said , Jamie Calise, in a statement.

Authorities reportedly responded at around 9:30 p.m. to a request for a welfare inquiry along with a separate fire report.

When they arrived, authorities said they found a man outside the home with a fire burning on his lawn.

“When emergency responders realized the body was on fire, the male ran into the home and locked the door,” O’Keefe and Calise said in a joint statement.

The Cape Cod regional SWAT team then responded and eventually entered the home and arrested Adam Howe.
