Access-A-Ride driver arrested for assaulting elderly woman

The Access-A-Ride driver who allegedly pulled a 78-year-old woman from his vehicle and attempted to rob her in a camera-covered attack in Brooklyn has been arrested, police said.

Elsakran Mohamed, 46, of Bay Ridge, was arrested by the NYPD Saturday and charged with attempted robbery, vehicle robbery and grand larceny for last Wednesday’s incident, in which he was also filmed running over a Good Samaritan.

According to officials, Mohamed was caught on video pulling Catherine Shine out of his car by her leg and throwing her into the street as she tried to fend him off with her cane on East 35th Avenue in Marine Park.

The suspect then got back in the car and drove it into Ezra Halawani, a 35-year-old man who filmed the troubling incident and came to Shine’s aid, police said.

Mohamed was caught on camera pulling Catherine Shine, 78, by her leg before driving his car into Ezra Halawani, who took the picture, police say.

“Are you alright?” Halawani asked after being beaten by Mohamed trying to stop him from escaping, according to footage.

“No I’m not!” Shine said as she sat on the street with her sandals off.

“I’m a 78-year-old woman and he threw me out of the cab, he took my money, he took my phone!”

Mohamed was charged with attempted robbery, vehicle robbery, grand larceny, petty larceny and criminal mischief.

“The first instinct was to pull out my phone and start recording,” Halawani told The Post last week, his right arm in a sling the day after the accident.

“When I realized it was an elderly woman, I came to help her and see what was going on.”

Shine called Access-A-Ride to get an appointment for therapy, her daughter said.

“She was on her way to physical therapy, she wasn’t expecting that,” the woman told the Post.

The NYS Federation of Taxi Drivers had also identified Mohamed as a driver and requested that his Taxi and Limousine Commission driving privileges be immediately suspended or revoked.

“The video is brutal and shows no compassion or respect for the elderly,” the group said in a statement. “Mohamed’s actions will not be tolerated, there is NOTHING that could justify throwing an elderly woman [sic] out of a car and onto the street,” the statement said.

According to transport sources, Mohamed’s license has since been suspended. Access-A-Ride driver arrested for assaulting elderly woman
