‘Absolute perfection’: Alan Shearer wowed at a Tottenham player in the game against Burnley who was making £192k-a-week

Alan Shearer was impressed by Son Heung-min after scoring a hat-trick in Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-2 win over Burnley on Saturday.

Harry Kane? Who is Harry Kane? It’s been a few weeks since the England captain left Tottenham but one thing is for sure, the players aren’t showing it on the pitch.

The performances of Ange Postecoglou’s side before the international break were breathtaking. Shearer praised Son Heung-min after his hat-trick, he told MatchDay Extra Premier League Productions (09/02/23 at 20:20).

Previously it was Richarlison who led Spurs but he has struggled in the Premier League, scoring just one goal since his big transfer last summer.

He might have opened his account at Craven Cottage during Tottenham’s EFL Cup defeat by Fulham but Postecoglou opted to drop the Brazil star for the trip to Turf Moor – it has been claimed he won’t start the game midweek wanted.

Well it worked out beautifully as Spurs were once again a pleasure to watch and Premier League all-time top scorer Shearer said things were going “really, really well” for the club.

“This first one is a wonderful ending, I think,” said Shearer. “He’s always in control. He knows exactly what he is doing.

“He sends the defender down. He sends the goalkeeper down – that’s absolute perfection. What a great ending, so clever.

“When someone the size of Kane leaves the football club, you have to ask yourself, ‘Am I going to get in?’ And it’s a really good opportunity for other players to level up. That’s exactly how it is at Tottenham.

“That’s also a cultivated conclusion, he directs it to the right goalkeeper with his left foot. Everything is looking very, very good at Tottenham.”

Son leads by example

With the captain’s armband on his arm, the £192,000-a-week star (Spotrac) sets a good example for a Spurs side in transition.

On the player side, some changes still need to be made as a number of older and unwanted players didn’t move when the summer transfer window was open.

But the style of play is changing, new faces and stars are emerging, such as James Maddison, and it’s exciting for Tottenham supporters.
