Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson responds to ‘wild’ requests for school shooting episode

Abbott Elementary School Creator Quinta Brunson has said she’s been inundated with “wild” requests from fans to write a school shooting episode in the wake of this week’s deadly attack in Texas.
On Tuesday (May 24), 19 children and two teachers were killed after a teenage gunman went on a rampage at Robb Elementary School.
The shooting is the deadliest in a US elementary school since the 2012 Sandy Hook killings in Newtown, Connecticut, which killed 20 children and six adults.
The shooter, named 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, wore body armor and had a handgun and rifle, all commercially available in the state of Texas, which only expanded access to guns in the past year.
Brunson wrote on Twitter on Wednesday: “It’s amazing how many people have asked about a school shooting episode of the show I’m writing.
“People are so far from demanding more from the politicians who elected them that they are demanding ‘entertainment’ instead. I can no longer ask ‘are you okay’ because the answer is ‘no’.”
She urged people to “please use this energy to ask your elected official to respect Beto time and no less,” adding, “I beg of you.”

Brunson continued, “I don’t want to sound mean, but I want people to understand the mistake of asking about something like this. we are not fine. This country rots our brains. I’m sad about it.”
Abbott Elementary School, a US mockumentary airing on ABC, centers on a group of dedicated teachers working at a struggling Philadelphia school. fTeachers are determined to give their students the best possible start in life, even though the school is underfunded.
