“Poison”, the new single by Aaliyah have features Weekend, came.
The song, released on Friday, is the first single from Aaliyah’s upcoming posthumous album, Unstoppable, due in 2022.
In the song, the late R&B singer questions her relationship and whether it was love, before concluding that their time together was over.
“It’s too late now for both of us / No regrets for what we’ve lost and what we’ve shared / Maybe tomorrow we’ll fall in love again / But until then we’ll be like friends,” Aaliyah sang.
The mellow song was first introduced just hours before its release, when Background Records tweeted, “Aaliyah x Abel. That’s it. That’s the tweet. Hours later, they shared the release date and cover art for the single, which featured a bottle of supposed poison, surrounded by a beautiful and exotic, but dangerous plant.
“Aaliyah and The Weeknd’s ‘Poison’ premieres THIS friday,” label revealed.
The new single comes just months after it was announced that Aaliyah’s music catalog would be made available digitally for fans to stream.
This isn’t the only collab that The Weeknd has discounted this week. His song with Branches of FKA, “Tears in the Club,” has also been released.
