A two-year-old boy drowned Sunday in a swimming pool at the Margaritaville Resort in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The toddler was on vacation with his family in Port Allen, Louisiana, Captain Milton Houseman told the Biloxi Police Department Sun Herald.
He was taken to the Merit Health System in Biloxi, where he was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m., Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer said.
The boy’s name has not yet been released.
Captain Houseman said a lifeguard was on duty at the time of the drowning.
told witnesses WLOX TV The pool area was packed with guests on Sunday as temperatures soared above 32C (90F), describing the scene as “chaotic”.
In a statement, Margaritaville Resorts announced that Sun Herald they are “deeply saddened by this tragic accident”.
“We are heartbroken and our prayers are with the parents and family at this difficult time,” the statement said.
According to the resort’s website, the pool playground features a 450-foot lazy river, lounge pool, water ropes course, and slides.
