‘A tiny hand sanitizer fenced in by liquor bottles’: David Baddiel jokes about Boris Johnson’s new party picture

Comedian David Baddiel has reacted to new images that appear to show Boris Johnson drinking at a party in Downing Street, which took place during a coronavirus lockdown.

The four pictures provided to ITV News appear to show the Prime Minister raising a glass at a farewell party for his then Communications Director Lee Cain on November 13, 2020.

A number of people stand together around a table with party food and booze, despite the rest of the country being banned from socializing at the time during the height of the pandemic.

Baddiel shared the story on Twitter and joked, “Are the other people blurred to give the impression of how much he’s been drinking?”

Posting a zoomed-in image of the table on Twitter, he added, “I like this almost iconic image — perhaps for years to come this will be the image that defines this administration — of a tiny hand sanitizer fenced in by several bottles of alcohol.”

Earlier, Dominic Cummings – Johnson’s former senior adviser – claimed that photos would emerge within the next 24 to 48 hours showing the Prime Minister had “blatantly lied” to the police and the House of Commons about parties at Downing Street.

Cummings predicted images of warring factions within No 10 would be released before senior official Sue Gray’s official Partygate report is finally released this week.

After the images were released, Labor Deputy Leader Angela Rayner said Johnson had “reduced his position” and “there is no doubt now.” [that] he has lied.”
