A strong cold front could bring severe storms into central NC on Thursday

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – Thursday is a CBS 17 weather warning day due to the increasing threat of severe weather.

A strong cold front will move into central North Carolina in the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday. A series of organized storms could create damaging winds or an isolated tornado.

The best chance of severe storms is in the northbound triangle where the risk is low (level 2 of 5). Everywhere else is at low risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms.

This is the same storm system that is once again putting much of the Deep South under pressure for strong to severe storms. Parts of Louisiana and Mississippi are expecting a tornado outbreak Wednesday, the same area where tornadoes landed last week.

Ahead of the front, warm, humid air will flow into central North Carolina and highs will reach into the 70’s. Showers are possible late Wednesday before likely settling into Thursday.

Just in time for the first day of April on Friday, the sky behind the front will clear up. The highs will be a few degrees cooler in the upper 60s.
