At least six people have been killed and dozens injured in a series of shootings that have swept the US in recent days.
A seven-year-old girl was playing on her scooter outside her grandmother’s home in Hempstead, New York, when she was hit in the arm by a stray bullet.
The girl’s mother, Radiah Simmons, said the family saw someone walking in the street who looked “suspicious”.
“He ran up and started shooting. I shielded my face from breaking glass [and] said to my daughter, ‘Run, baby, run!’”
The little girl was riding her scooter and playing with her three-year-old brother when gunshots erupted.
That’s what her grandmother Patricia Murphy told her WNBC-4 New York: “She screamed, ‘Help me! Help me! Why would someone shoot me? Why would anyone shoot me?”
She vented: “It’s disgusting. There’s a little girl. This will shape her for the rest of her life. How am I supposed to explain that when she’s 7 years old?”
The victim was taken to hospital but released after medical treatment.
Murphy said she couldn’t live in the Hempstead area because her family was “terrified” after the ordeal.
Police have not released any information about the potential suspect while the investigation continues.
A 33-year-old man was shot five times in Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday.
The 20-year-old suspect initially fled the scene but was later arrested by police officers.
They were not identified by the police.
It’s not known what caused the shooting, but police found six bullet casings and a semi-automatic weapon nearby, according to police New York Post.
Meanwhile, a man and a woman were found dead in a Detroit home on Sunday.
Family members reportedly told police they last saw the victims on Friday.
Walking around the property, they found the door was open and the police were called. fox2 reported.
Officials discovered the victims dead in the home.
They have not yet been identified as the investigation is ongoing.
OVERHALL AT CAR WASH
A father was killed and his son injured after they were mugged at a car wash in southwest Houston, Texas on Friday.
The couple was robbed, and one of the suspects began pistol-whipping the man’s son KTRK.
Cmdr Michael Chaney told the outlet: “As soon as this happened, the second suspect, also armed with a handgun, turned and shot the father in the car wash.”
The father, who is believed to be in his 40s or 50s, died at the scene while his son was injured.
Cops said they spoke to witnesses about the incident and are reviewing CCTV footage up close while looking for leads.
Both perpetrators fled the scene and are wanted by the police.
SHOOT LITTLE ROCK
Charles Willis, 53, was killed in a shooting at Pizza D’Action restaurant in Little Rock. Arkansas on Friday.
Employees said he was a regular customer who worked as a doorman for the store Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported.
Willis would always use de-escalation strategies when dealing with noisy customers.
In another incident, Kaylan Pace, 33, Nick Wallace, 21, and Ronald Peyton, 35, were shot dead in the city’s River Market District on Sunday.
Police officers found bullet casings in a garage and blood was found throughout the garage deck.
Gun violence also applied Chicago over the weekend when 13 people were shot but no one was killed.
A 38-year-old woman, whose name was not released, suffered gunshot wounds to her legs after being attacked on Sunday morning.
A 24-year-old man was shot in the hip after shots were fired while standing in a stairwell.
Two men, 24 and 55, were found shot dead in separate incidents in West Englewood and Lawndale.
The 24-year-old was taken to a hospital where he is said to be in serious condition The sun time.
Police said the 55-year-old was in good condition.
No suspects were taken into custody.
One person has been arrested after a man was shot and killed after an argument in South Austin, Chicago, on Saturday.
Two men, 32 and 20, argued at a property and police officers say the younger man opened fire.
The 32-year-old was in critical condition after being shot in the back of the head and left knee.
A 19-year-old teenager was injured while driving his gray sedan on Saturday night, while a 15-year-old girl was shot dead in an alleyway in Portage Park on Saturday afternoon.
She was hit in the knee but police say she is not in critical condition.
Sylvester Adams, a Chicago Transit Authority worker, is believed to have shot and killed a 37-year-old man aged 95th Street CTA Red Line Station on Saturday morning.
Cops say the couple started arguing before the suspect shot him.
The man was reportedly shot in the lower abdomen, back and lower left leg ABC7.
Police arrested Adams from Lynwood and recovered a gun from the scene.
The CTA said the suspect violated workplace rules, including possession of a firearm.
In a statement, officials said: “The CTA continues to work closely with the Chicago Police Department as it investigates last night’s incident and the circumstances surrounding it.
“The behavior of this one employee does not at all reflect that of the thousands of hard-working, dedicated men and women who take pride in their work and carry out their duties responsibly every day.”
Adams faces a possible life sentence if convicted.
