A man dies after jumping into a lake at SoFi Stadium in California

A man died after jumping into an artificial lake at SoFi Stadium – home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers – on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The 45-year-old man reportedly entered the Inglewood, Calif. stadium grounds around 6 a.m. when he ventured to the 15-foot-deep lake, swam to the middle and never surfaced, Inglewood Mayor James Butt’s news conference said.
The man, who has not been identified, first jumped a fence to get into the stadium’s parking lot.
Stadium security spotted the man on surveillance footage and called the police, but the rescue effort quickly turned into a mission to recover the body.
Divers from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau the man’s body recovered from the lake more than three hours later.
Officials don’t know why the man was in the stadium or why he went into the water, Butts said.
The mayor added that he didn’t think there was anything SoFi Stadium could have done to prevent the tragedy.

“This is someone who made a conscious decision to enter the property, get into the lake and ended up having some problems and difficulties so I don’t think there was anything SoFi could have done to prevent that” said Butts.
