A Boston couple’s dog eats their passport days before their wedding in Italy

“My dog ate my passport” probably won’t fly at customs.

The wedding ceremony of an engaged Boston couple is in jeopardy after their dog chewed up the husband’s passport – less than two weeks before their planned wedding in Italy.

Donato Frattaroli from South Boston, said WCVB that he and his fiancé had gone to City Hall to fill out their marriage forms on Thursday, just days before their scheduled August 31 ceremony.

When they returned home hours later, they found that their mischievous year-and-a-half-old Golden Retriever Chickie had eaten through several pages of Frattoroli’s passport.

The couple are now trying to find a replacement and are asking local authorities for help.

“I’m just a little stressed out,” Frattaroli told the outlet. “Fortunately, the office of Congressman (Stephen) Lynch and Senator (Ed) Markey responded very quickly. They have been in contact, at least with me and the State Department, to try and expedite things and get a new passport. I keep my fingers crossed and hope that everything works out.”

The couple are due to fly to Italy this Friday.

The groom-to-be said if he couldn’t get a passport before the flight, he would stay home while his fiancé and her wedding guests travel to Italy without him.

If he still can’t get a passport in time for the wedding, he said he’ll just meet the wedding party when they return to the US.
