‘A bit of a nightmare’: Carragher reacts to Moises Caicedo’s first appearance since Liverpool’s snub

Jamie Carragher was unimpressed by Moises Caicedo as the latter missed a penalty in Chelsea’s defeat by West Ham United.

Moises Caicedo missed a penalty as Chelsea were beaten 3-1 at West Ham United this afternoon.

The Hammers took an early lead when James Ward-Prowse showed his usual quality and Nayef Aguerd pocketed his corner kick.

Carney Chukwuemeka whipped up an excellent equalizer and Chelsea were well up before Michail Antonio put West Ham back ahead.

After Aguerd’s red card, West Ham had to hold on before Caicedo committed a hasty foul in his own penalty area.

Caicedo defeated Emerson Palmieri in stoppage time, allowing Lucas Paqueta to get promoted and secure all three points.

Caicedo started the game on the bench just days after completing his stunning £115million move from Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Ecuadorian came on as a substitute just after the hour, replacing Ben Chilwell.

Caicedo almost made an instant impression, volleying a shot wide of the post, but the performance was mixed on his 30-minute debut.

However, pundit Jame Carragher certainly wasn’t impressed, as he suspected Caicedo had a “nightmare” in his cameo.

Carragher told Sky Sports (19/08, 6:30 p.m.) that he felt that Caicedo was struggling but that of course he will get better in the future.

“He’s had quite a nightmare since he came on, I have to say,” said Carragher. “It’s a flimsy lazy challenge.” He’ll have better days without a doubt,” he added.

Carragher could have spoken of a Caicedo debut for another club this weekend.

Liverpool had agreed to a deal to sign Caicedo but the latter turned the Reds down to join Chelsea.

Carragher was keen to see Caicedo at Liverpool even if the price was “high” in his opinion.

It didn’t work out as Liverpool moved on, signing Wataru Endo from Stuttgart instead, while Caicedo made his requested move to Stamford Bridge.

It wasn’t the start Caicedo wanted, but as Carragher said, things will be even better of him in Chelsea blue.
