KINGWOOD, TX (KTRK) — Mayor Pro-Tem member Dave Martin announced Sunday the arrest of three suspects in connection with the 24 stores that were burgled and vandalized in Kingwood last weekend.
The video shown above is from the original report.
The Houston Police Department said three black men were arrested in southwest Houston.
Kingwood investigators were able to gather sufficient evidence to charge them after the arrests, authorities said.
“Two of our Kingwood HPD officers managed to obtain confessions directly related to the Kingwood burglaries. The commander of the Kingwood Division has also been successful in getting good intelligence from these criminals, which is being passed on to the companies involved,” said Martin.
The burglaries happened early Saturday morning. Business owners told ABC13 they caught the suspects, who began the burglaries at 4:30 a.m., with some taking place around 6 a.m
According to the Houston police, 24 stores were broken into. Cash was stolen from some stores, while others had their doors broken open.
The officials were initially only aware of a burglary. A spokesman told ABC13 that only a single store had an alarm permit that alerted HPD if the glass broke.
Officials told ABC13 they are working to educate owners in the area about purchasing an alarm system, installing cameras and improving outdoor lighting.
