27-year-old man dies on New York subway tracks

A 27-year-old man died Friday when he touched the third rail of the Manhattan subway tracks and was struck by a train, police officers said.

Witnesses told police they saw a man lying on the third rail at the Houston Street train station around 7:30 a.m., officers said. How he got on the tracks is unclear.

A southbound No. 1 train then pulled into the station and struck the victim, police officers said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
