24-year-old man stabbed to death in NYC argument over cigarette: police officers

A 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in Hell’s Kitchen during a fight that broke out when he stopped to ask a stranger for a cigarette, police said.
The victim was walking with his girlfriend outside a parking garage on West 42nd Street near Ninth Avenue just after 11pm Tuesday when he spotted a group of three men asking for a cigarette.
The question sparked an argument – which police say ended with one of the men stabbing the victim in the upper body.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests were made.
The victim, who police say is from Brooklyn, has not been publicly identified until the family is notified.
