On August 22, Atlanta FaZe crowned 2021 Call of Duty League Champions. And now, more than five months later, the 2022 CDL season is finally about to begin.
Professional Vanguard The season will kick off with three weeks of online qualifying matches leading up to the first main LAN event of 2022. The league’s 12 brands will play pre-determined matches “to ensure fair distribution. equals of matches,” according to CDL.
When CDL originally announced its format for the 2022 season, the league intends to have only eight teams qualify for each of the Majors this year. But in the end the tournament rescind this decisionso all 12 franchises will have a spot in the main four scheduled to be held in 2022.
Over the next few weeks, teams will compete in several online matches to determine their seed for Major One, which will be hosted by OpTic Texas from March 3 to 6.
OpTic Texas is one of the biggest storylines from last season, formed from consolidation between OpTic and Envy’s Dallas Empire. This move leaves a 12th franchise slot vacant in the CDL, the last being buying by The Kraft Group to bring Boston Breach to life.
This season has also seen lots of squad movesas well as tradition in Call of Duty electronic Sports. Crimsix and Clayster have reunion on New York Subliners and Octane joined the Los Angeles Thieves in a return to Nadeshot’s organization. Los Angeles Guerrilla Squad completely revamped its listBrings SlasheR, Gunless, Huke and Asim, while OpTic Texas’ lined up saw Scump and Dashy join forces with Shotzzy and iLLeY from Empire. And three teams have won tournaments in Black Ops’ Cold War season — Atlanta FaZe, Toronto Ultraand Minnesota RKKR—It all sticks together towards 2022.
