2 officers shot dead during July 4th celebrations in Philadelphia, officials say

PHILADELPHIA — Two police officers were shot dead near the end of a July 4 fireworks show in Philadelphia.

One officer suffered a graze. The condition of the other officer was not immediately known. According to our sister station WPVI, both were transferred to Jefferson University Hospital for treatment.

Filming took place Monday night in Center City. The city’s emergency management advised on Twitter to avoid the area.

This is at least the second incident of gun violence related to an Independence Day celebration in the United States, after at least six people were killed in a shooting at a parade in Highland Park, Illinois.
