2 men allegedly stole a catalytic converter from a Texas city apartment complex, leading to a police chase

TEXAS CITY, Texas (KTRK) – Texas City Police say they received a call around 12:45 a.m. Sunday after two men allegedly took a catalytic converter from a car in a car apartment.

When the officers arrived, they spotted the suspects in action and tried to stop them, but they escaped. This resulted in a high-speed chase of more than 60 miles per hour on I-45, police said.

Police chased them from the Texas city to the north side of Houston. The suspects hit a car while entering a collection road in Tidwell.

During the pursuit, there was a vehicle accident within the city limits. The drivers are okay.

The suspects did not stop to assist and continued driving after that collision to the west side of Montgomery, where they pulled into the Garden City Apartments. They tried to jump out of the car and run away, but the officers quickly caught them.

Officers said they found several catalytic converters inside the vehicle that had been stolen.

Both suspects face burglary, motor vehicle theft and evasion charges.
