WAKE FOREST, NC (WNCN) – A school bus with 23 students from Forest Pines Elementary School on board was involved in an accident involving another vehicle Thursday morning, city officials confirmed.
The accident happened around 9 a.m. when a Chevy Traverse failed to stop at a red light and hit the bus, a Wake Forest spokesman said.
Seven ambulances were on duty at the crash site and 11 were treated at the scene. The bus driver and two children were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the spokesman said.
Year 5 Ryan Brown said emergency officials acted quickly to make sure everyone on the bus was okay.
One parent said their son banged his head against the window, but he was fine and more upset that he missed field day.
All lanes along Capital Boulevard/Northbound US 1 were closed immediately after the accident and reopened at 10:55 a.m
The Traverse’s driver was accused of failing to stop at a red light, and another bus was called to pick up the students and take them to Forest Pines Elementary, city officials said.
