The family knew something was wrong when they heard a knock on the door around 9:30 p.m. and found Peanut without the 16-year-old, local Fox affiliate. KRIV reported.

They searched for Diamond Alvarez, their southwestern neighborhood in Houston, Texas, and found her bullet-riddled a few blocks away.

“My son found her. I tried CPR and couldn’t bring her back. I tried so hard to keep her alive. I couldn’t,” said victim’s mother, Anna Machado. told KRIV while identifying Diamond as the victim.

The family said Diamond died at the scene, in a green space in their neighborhood where a makeshift memorial was growing.

Tito Moczygemba, Diamond’s stepfather, said: “Whoever shot this girl 22 times in the back, they were cowards.

Machado told the local news agency KPRC that her daughter was a sophomore honors student who enjoyed volleyball and basketball while attending Madison High School.

She likes purple and is described as a cheerful and outgoing girl who is not afraid to speak up, a GoFundMe for funeral expenses said.

“The person who did that to her was very cold,” family friend and neighbor Jovanna Martinez tell ABC affiliate KTRK.

“That’s not true. She is a happy, cheerful person. Her family loves her very much. She has a lot of people who love her, she still will be. She will forever. live in people’s hearts. I don’t think it’s something people will get over really easily.”

Diamond loves makeup and plans to go to cosmetology school before her life comes to a halt.

Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots in the area, followed by the sound of tires squealing as a dark-colored vehicle sped away.

The Houston Police Department is working to find surveillance video that could help identify the vehicle involved but has yet to release a suspect in the case as of Wednesday night.

Community members shared their shock at Diamond’s death online, with someone called it “just sick.”

“I’m heartbroken for her parents,” the commenter wrote.

They shared the hope that someone would provide information that could lead to her killer, writing “Rip young lady… someone must have seen something!”
