A video posted online shows crowds fleeing in horror as panic swept through the Barclays Center over a false report of a shooting early Sunday, injuring more than a dozen people.
Tennis star Noami Osaka was among those involved in the chaos in the Brooklyn area, when the NYPD said seven of the injured were hospitalized.
Footage, including at least one clip posted to TikTok, showed a frantic stampede with people ducking and running into the arena where the boxing match between Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero was taking place earlier that night.
Osaka said she was “petrified” as she was forced to huddle in a room as chaos ensued.
“I was just at the Barclays Center and all of a sudden I heard screaming and saw people running, then we were yelled at that there was an active shooter and we had to huddle in a room and close the doors,” Osaka said on Twitter.
In a follow-up tweet, the four-time tennis grand slam champion said: “I really hope everyone got out safe, as I’m tweeting this we got through it okay.”
Boxing reporter Ryan Songalia previously told the Post that only media and production staff were left at the Barclays when a fight broke out and some believed the commotion was a shooter.
The NYPD said no shots were fired, although a fight broke out around 1 a.m. on Atlantic Avenue and Fort Greene Place with a man, who then ran to the Atlantic Terminal mall.
Crowds then began running in the same direction, adding to the confusion, police officers said.
Investigators have video of the incident and it is being investigated, a police source told The Post.
The frightening scene came less than a week after a twisted mass gunman killed 21 people, including 19 students, at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, and about two weeks after ten people were fatally shot by another mass gunman at a Buffalo grocery store had been.
“We’re used to brawls at boxing events, but recent headlines and crowd panic had many of us worried that our worst fears were about to come true,” Songalia said. “Thankfully we were able to return to our seats to archive our stories and get out safely.”
