FULTON, Md. (WJZ) – A 15-year-old student at Reservoir High School in Fulton was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm on campus Tuesday, Howard County Sheriff’s Office said.
School personnel told police that one student, a boy, had left the school without permission around midday to go get snacks, police said. When he returned, staff told him he would be searched, which was protocol, police said.
The student left the school again, and police said a witness saw him drop something in the nearby woods. An officer reported finding a loaded gun there.
The student was charged with possession of a handgun on and on school property. Police said there were no reports of the student making any threats or having any problems leading up to the incident.
Police said the gun was unregistered and was not reported stolen. A search of his Laurel home found no further evidence of a weapon. An investigation is underway.
