PHILADELPHIA – A massive house fire in Philadelphia early Wednesday morning has caused the deaths of at least 13 people, according to news reports. Two others injured, reports WPVI-TV.
Fire officials and police said firefighters and police responded to a fire at a three-story restaurant house in the city’s Fairmount neighborhood around 6:40 a.m. and discovered flames coming from the door. second floor window. Police said the house had been converted into two apartments.
The fire was brought under control in less than an hour, but officials were still on the scene as of 9:30 a.m
Neighbors told TV journalists that children lived in the house. WPVI-TV reported that at least one child was taken out on a stretcher.
Television news footage showed ladders erected over the front of the house, which had blacked out all of the windows. Holes remained in the roof where the firefighters had broken in.
