1 found dead in car, 1 injured in shooting near Clinton, lawmakers say

CLINTON, NC (WNCN) — A man was killed in a car during a shooting that injured another man near Clinton on Sunday night, Sampson County lawmakers said.
According to a press release from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported around 6:10 p.m. as a victim of a gunshot wound along Loop Road, which is off NC 24 just east of Clinton.
MPs responded and found a man dead in a car and another man with a “superficial gunshot wound,” the press release said.
The wounded were taken to a nearby hospital by EMTs from Sampson County.
“No one was able to provide any suspicious information or details of what happened before the shooting,” the press release said.
Detectives were still at the scene as of 8:40 p.m., deputies said.
No further information was released.
