1 dead after one car hit another and then crashed into a tree in Chatham County, officials say

SILER CITY, NC (WNCN) — One person died in an accident near Siler City in Chatham County late Saturday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The accident involved two cars and happened around 11:50 p.m., highway patrol said.

The incident happened along US 421 about 1.5 miles south of Siler City.

A red Nissan was being driven on US 421 when it collided with another car, officials said.

The Nissan then went off the road and hit a tree. One person in the Nissan died.

The identity of the deceased was not released on Sunday.

No further information was available from the authorities.
