1 dead, 3 injured in accident involving 300-foot cliff fall in Palos Verdes Estates, Southern California

PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. – Firefighters from Southern California found one dead person and three injured people on a beach below a sea cliff early Monday, authorities said.

Palos Verdes Estates police called the Los Angeles County Fire Department before dawn to report a person who may have been “over the side” of the cliff. Firefighters found the four people 300 feet (91 meters) down the cliff, Fire Chief Martin Rangel said.

One person was dead, two suffered trauma and one suffered minor injuries, Rangel said.

The victims were only described as two women and two men. TV news helicopters showed a fire brigade helicopter lifting victims to rescue vehicles on the cliff top.

Rangel said he didn’t know how the incident happened.

Palos Verdes Estates is located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula at the southern end of Los Angeles County. A path runs along the cliff high above the Pacific Ocean.
