The Redditor disclosure that she was looking forward to receiving the ring because she has always loved it since she was a child. She said it was the only thing she wanted from her grandmother.

Family rituals say that only the eldest daughter can receive the ring. OP’s paternal grandmother (Original Poster) has two daughters, and OP’s mother is younger.

OP’s aunt has two sons, so she asked her sister to give the family ring to OP since she is the only daughter among the grandchildren. However, everything changed when OP’s grandmother passed away.

When OP was 14 years old, her aunt adopted a 17 year old girl. Since then, no one has discussed the family tradition, so the OP assumes the girl’s addition won’t affect her chances of getting the ring.

OP planned to get her hands on the ring before her aunt’s daughter.

After OP’s grandmother passed away, everyone cleaned the house for her. OP revealed that her grandmother was moved to a facility after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, so her house was messy and in need of cleaning.

While cleaning the house, OP heard her aunt and adopted daughter whispering in the pantry. She walked towards them and secretly listened to their conversation.

To her surprise, they planned to get the ring from her grandmother’s jewelry box before she could get there. OP’s cousin believes she deserves the ring because she’s the oldest granddaughter. OP explain:

“I was very upset because my aunt promised me I would get it eventually but she changed her mind.”

After learning of their plan, OP decided to put her hand on the ring before her aunt’s daughter did. When the family was planning to go out to dinner one night, she told them that she had to leave early because her manager had called her on a job.

Instead of going to the office, she went back to her grandmother and took the ring from the jewelry box. She immediately left her home before anyone else could return. She Written:

“I didn’t know what would happen today when my aunt realized it was missing.”

The user added that OP’s aunt and cousin were wrong to get the ring. She asked OP if her grandma would like to see her children fight on a ring.

The girl believes the ring belongs to her because she is her biological niece. She added that her grandmother thinks “blood ties are more important.”
