Yankees’ Gleyber Torres makes a mistake at shortstop

Here are some notable nuggets that happened during the Yankees’ spring training action on Wednesday:
To the max
Max Burt, who scored a grand slam on Tuesday, landed deep again in the Yankees’ eighth 11-3 loss to Toronto at Steinbrenner Field. The 25-year-old infielder, drafted in the 28th round by Northeastern in 2018, finished last season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Comes up short
Gleyber Torres started at shortstop and didn’t charge hard enough at a Lourdes Gurriel Jr. chopper in fourth with Teoscar Hernandez in first. It was about an infield hit, but Aaron Boone said of Torres’ approach, “That’s one that you really have to attack.”
I noticed
The Blue Jays capitalized on a powerful shift against Joey Gallo in the seventh inning, with four outfielders and the three remaining infielders all on the right side of second base. Did it work? Hard to say. Gallo huffed.
The schedule for Thursday
A week before Opening Day, the Yankees visit the Phillies at 1:05 p.m. at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida, with Jameson Taillon leading the way.
