Wrestler Jimmy Rave has passed away at the age of 39 after a heartbreaking battle over his health.

Late star – who was forced to retire in November 2020 after more than two decades in business – made his name for titles like Ring of Honor, IMPACT, New Japan Pro Wrestling, Dragon Gate and Combat Zone Wrestling.

In a statement from his daughter Kailah and friend Bill Behrens confirming his death, they said: ‘James Michael Guffey has passed away at the age of 39.

‘James is best known as Professional Wrestler, Jimmy Rave. His career, which began in 1999, spans more than 2 decades. ‘

They added: ‘Jimmy has struggled with drug addiction for many years. His struggles resulted in him having to amputate his arms and later both legs.

‘James is survived by his ex-wife Felicia, daughter Kailah, son James II, and parents Jim & Toni Guffey.

“At the time of his death, he was living in the Philadelphia, PA area with Gabby Gilbert.”

Details of a memorial service – to be healed in Georgia – will be confirmed ‘at a later date’.

The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

In October, Jimmy opens in a brutal year when he lost both legs in June to MRSA and admitting feeling ’embarrassed’ kept him quiet.

Along with a photo of himself in the hospital after the procedure, he tweeted: ‘Obviously it’s time for me to clean up. This past June, I started having trouble walking and went to see my surgeon. He determined I had MRSA on both legs and they needed to be amputated immediately.

‘Advertisers can tell you along with my colleagues, I have a history of this and frequently cancel shows due to this condition (sic).’

As the NHS describes it, MRSA infections ‘mainly affect people who are hospitalized and symptoms as it gets deeper into the skin include swelling, heat, pain, pus discharge and redness’.

The NHS adds that if it ‘goes deeper into your body’ it can also cause chills, high temperature, aches, dizziness and confusion.

The wrestler left fans heartbroken when he first revealed his arm was amputated in November 2020, and signed a contract with Covid right after just a few days.

He wrote at the time: ‘I have been very fortunate for the past 21 years in professional wrestling and to have fulfilled my dream.

‘Today, that dream is over for me and I have a new reality. Last Tuesday, my world fell apart when the doctors discovered that my left arm was infected.

‘I tried to stretch it out but by the time I saw the doctor it was too late and they had to amputate my left arm above the elbow. Thus effectively ended my ring career. ‘
