‘Worst war movie you watch on TV’ MMA fighter recalls saving his family during tornado

MMA fighter Brian Brooks told Fox News how he saved his family from a candle factory they got stuck in a tornado in Mayfield, Kentucky.

“It’s a miracle, I even found them. I don’t know how it happened,” said Brooks told Fox News. He told how he received a phone call at home from his wife while his daughter and granddaughter were in the bathtub with their helmets on to protect them.

“She called and told me she loved me, that she was trapped, and they were smashed. And she hung up,” he said. “I jumped in the truck and flew over to her.”

When Brooks arrived at the factory, flatten and “like the worst war movie you see on TV,” he said. Knowing only that his wife said they were in the women’s bathroom, Brooks “started climbing and looking for people,” pulling workers out of the rubble.

Eventually, his sister-in-law, who was on top of Brooks’ wife, recognized his “crazy shoes” and started shouting his name, he told Fox News. He said: “I was like, “Oh my gosh,” and started trying to pull, but the roof, the candle wax bin, the bathroom walls, the rafters, “everything is on top.”

Brooks said he was given a crowbar by officers and managed to get his family out and take them to the hospital. They could go home on Monday “slightly battered, bruised, sore” and “very heartbroken.”

“They didn’t think they’d see us again,” Brooks said. “I’m so grateful… I just want to say my prayers for all those unlucky ones.”

The tornado hit Kentucky declare At least 74 lives, of which more than 100 are still missing. Candle factory spokesman told Fox News that eight people died in the factory.
