She shares a stepchild with her now widowed husband Michael Richards and five biological children. The youngest child, Myles, is 5 months old, and she is determined to breastfeed until her first birthday.

In early November, Megan and her family became ill with COVID-19. Michael says that she is so intent on taking care of everyone else that she neglects herself. This is especially true when providing breast milk to her son. He recall:

“Even when she was sick and I was trying to keep her in bed, and try to get her to rest, I told her it might be time to stop pumping.”

Michael said she refused to do so. The father recalls frequently worrying about making sure her children got enough rest, focusing on that instead of themselves.

Initial, Myles became sicker, So my parents took me to the hospital because of dehydration. Fortunately, the baby made it through.

However, on November 14, 2021, Megan’s husband discovered her unconscious in their home and called an ambulance. In hospital, they said she was dehydrated and had pneumonia; complications due to COVID-19

Determined to do something for their deceased loved one, Megan’s family started a breast milk donation. Widower expressed:

“It’s one of the things she wants most for the baby, and it’s important to her, so it’s important to me.”
