Woman killed, retired officer injured in early Monday I-45 crash – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A woman was killed and a retired police officer injured in a crash Monday morning on Interstate 45 in south Dallas.

The incident occurred on northbound lanes shortly after 4:30 a.m. along block 8800 of the Julius Schepps Freeway, near the Simpson Stuart Road exit.

According to police, a woman driving a gray Nissan was trying to change lanes to pass another vehicle when she hit the rear of an SUV blocking the road.

Police said the SUV was parked in the left lane with the emergency lights flashing, although it was not clear if the lane was closed.

Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dallas Fire Brigade. The officers did not reveal her name

The former officer was taken by paramedics to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A Dallas police spokesman did not say from which agency the officer retired.

All lanes of the highway were briefly closed as police investigated.
