Woman dies after car hits moose

CHARLO, Montana (Missoulian) – A Charlo woman died on Freeway 2 Friday night after hitting a moose with her car just south of Libby.

A woman, 67, was traveling West in her 2018 Subaru Crosstrek at 5:37 p.m. near marker 64 when a moose swerved into the road and the vehicle struck the animal, a Crash report from the Montana Highway Patrol said. Her Subaru turned left and stopped at some trees.

The report said the driver was wearing his seat belt and that road conditions were unremarkable. No suspected drug or alcohol use.

She was taken to Logan Health in Kalispell, where she battled her injuries. The name of the deceased has yet to be released. The report did not reveal whether the moose died.
