PEORIA, Arizona (KPHO, KTVKKY) – A Peorian woman received a notice from her HOA after the association said she violated community guidelines by leaving a Black heritage flag in her front yard.
Nickole Langston said: “At this point, I feel it is harassment. Langston said she received the notice from her HOA after she hung a small flag in her garden that read ‘Living without regrets’.
Langston says the flag is a way to show pride in her heritage and was never intended to create controversy. “Most people, unless you have greater than 20/20 vision, you probably won’t be able to skim it,” Langston said. “It basically just says we’re Black and we’re proud, and it’s not meant to be associated with any political party.”
The former US Air Force Staff Sergeant says she raised the flag to replace the Black Lives Matter flag she displayed a few months ago. “I could see where the Black Lives Matter flag could be seen as political, so I had no problem removing the flag and replacing it,” Langston explains.
The Fletcher Heights community, off 83rd Avenue and Deer Valley Road, has a policy of only allowing political signs close to an election. However, Langston says her flag is not political. The Arizona Family news van drove around the neighborhood and spotted signs of Donald Trump and a Police Lives Matter flag in front of several homes.
Some neighbors, like Les Wrenn, have no problem with Langston’s flag and stand behind her. “Crazy. It’s crazy. And I’ll be behind her all day,” Wrenn said. The Arizona family contacted HOA’s property manager, and we were told they had no comment. .
