LONDON (Reuters) – Oscar-winning actor Eddie Redmayne will return to London’s West End in the new production of the musical “Cabaret,” which opens on Sunday.
Redmayne plays Emcee, alongside stage and screen star Jessie Buckley, in the film directed by Rebecca Frecknall.
“He was the most dedicated, hard-working actor I have ever worked with,” Frecknall said of Redmayne. “His work ethic is incredible, and his love for the role as well as the production and team is absolutely amazing, so he’s a real anchor for the piece. ”
The Tony Award-winning musical was originally performed on Broadway in 1966 and featured songs like “Willkommen.”
The musical, based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 novel “Goodbye to Berlin,” chronicles part of the German capital’s lavish pub nightlife during the final years of the Weimar Republic.
When asked about how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected rehearsals and show productions, Frecknall said: “It’s been tough but it’s never stopped us and it can be tough. much more if the attitude is wrong, so everyone is very good. come together. ”
The revival is being worked on at the Kit Kat Club in London until May.
