Will Smith was aware that a Box office superstar and fame gave him a lot of sex appeal for his fans. The Oscar winner admitted that many women would have probably tried to seduce the star. But Smith made a point of not sleeping around like other celebrities might have. This was because he did not want to promote a negative reputation, which he believed black men had.
Will Smith once revealed that he had sex with so many women it made him sick
As can be the case with some teenagers, Smith once shared that he was very promiscuous in his teenage years. But that promiscuity stemmed from a broken heart Bad Boys star admitted he was trying to fix his memoir Will. A 16-year-old Smith was dating Melanie, a friend he brought into his household due to her own family issues. Melanie would eventually cheat on Smith, sending the rapper on his early promiscuous path.
“I am in dire need of relief but since there is no pill for heartache I have resorted to the homeopathic remedies of shopping and excessive sex,” he wrote. “Up to this point in my life I’ve only had sex with one woman other than Melanie, but over the next few months I became a ghetto hyena.”
But this particular healing method backfired when Smith soon realized that this new lifestyle didn’t suit him.
“I’ve had sex with so many women, and it was so constitutionally uncomfortable for me that I developed a psychosomatic response to orgasm,” he admitted. “It would literally make me choke and even vomit at times… In any case, I hoped to God that this beautiful stranger would be ‘the one’ who would love me, who would make this pain go away, but without exception I was there , choking and miserable. And looking into women’s eyes deepened my torment even more.”
In his later years, Smith became one of the biggest stars of all time. His newfound fame would have given him access and the opportunity to form even more relationships with other women. Instead, during his rise to megastardom, Smith decided to settle down. First with ex-wife Sheree Zampinoand then with his current partner Jada Pinkett.
Resisting the temptation to sleep with multiple women was important to Smith. The actor admitted it was a bit of a struggle at times. But for Smith, it was a fight worth fighting for if it meant shattering an image he hates about black men.
“Lots of women would love to have sex with me,” he once said in an interview with abc news. “I hate the image of black men as promiscuous and unable to control themselves sexually. I don’t like this picture. That’s why I’m explicitly committed to it and I fight and fight not to put myself in such situations.
Will Smith created his clean image to cover up his insecurities
The image of the megastar has always been very important to him. But he admitted in his memoir that the clear and cheerful public persona he created was born out of tragedies he faced in his past. Namely his to watch Mother is abused by his father when he was a kid and felt guilty for not interfering.
“I couldn’t shake the thought that I had let my mother down and was somehow unworthy of love and care because of my cowardice,” he wrote. “And the [was] the beginnings of wanting to overachieve and create and win and build an outer life that could somehow and hopefully cover up the pain.”
This eventually led to the positive image that many know him for.
“This lively, happy, cheerful picture [of the Fresh Prince] was painted over a core of a genuine lack of self-worth and self-respect,” he continued.
