SOME benefits are paid out on different days than usual during the holiday season, including Universal Credit.
Since Christmas this year is a bank holiday, the payment date is sooner than expected.
This year, bank holiday Christmas Gift giving day and date falls on Saturday and Sunday
“To replace” bank holiday Follow up on the following business days – Monday and Tuesday.
That’s because bank holidays don’t count on weekends.
It means there are two bank holidays after Christmas 2021 on Monday 27 December and Tuesday 28 December.
If you usually get General Credit Paying on these days you can expect a change.
When will my General Credit be paid at Christmas?
General Credit get paid once a month to your bank account, construction organization or credit union.
If your benefit payment date falls on a bank holiday, you will usually be paid the previous business day.
That means you’ll get your General Credit payment earlier than usual, on Friday, December 24 – Christmas Eve – a normal business day.
You don’t need to do anything if your regular General Credit pick-up date falls on a bank holiday.
Payments are set to be made automatically sooner.
If your payment date falls on a normal day that’s not a bank holiday this holiday season, you’ll receive your payment as usual.
What other benefit payment dates will change for Christmas?
Some other subsidies may also be subject to similar changes.
State Retirement payments are one of them, plus the following:
If you normally receive any of these benefits and are expecting a payment on Monday, December 27, or Tuesday, December 28, you may receive it as early as Friday, the day December 24.
Anyone receiving tax credits or child benefits will also receive their payments as early as December 24.
Will the amount of General Credit I am paid change?
The amount of General Credit you receive will not change if paid on a different date during Christmas this year.
Any other benefit will not, unless you have had a change of circumstances affecting the amount you receive at the same time.
Remember, getting paid earlier than usual means you’ll need to extend the day as you’ll have to wait until the next month’s payment.
Make sure you take this into account when calculating your family budget.
What if my Universal Credit payment is delayed this Bank Holiday?
If your funds are not being paid on time, you should double-check your regular payment date and contact your bank before calling the DWP.
If something goes wrong, you can too file a complaint with the DWP.
What other bank holidays may affect my General Credit payments?
December 27 and 28 aren’t the only bank holidays coming up during the festive season.
There are also bank holidays in the new year:
- January 3, 2022
- January 4, 2022 (Scottish only)
In most cases, the DWP says if your payment is due on a bank holiday, you’ll be paid the previous business day.
Since New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, there is a bank holiday on Monday, January 3, 2022.
Payments are usually made early, so they can be made by Friday, December 31, 2021.
But since there are differences for Scottish and Northern Ireland bank holidays, they can be paid later.
