Why you should ALWAYS photograph your stove as “proof” before you go on holiday

BEFORE you go on vacation, there is one thing you can do with your phone to ensure you can enjoy a hassle-free trip.

It’s easy to get bogged down in the stress of packing for your trip and making sure your home is ready to be left alone while you’re away.

But for most people, there’s an inevitable panic that comes when you’ve already gone on vacation – “Did I forget something?” “Did I leave the stove on?!”

Happily, life hacker has a tip to ensure you can enjoy your time away from home without fearing the worst may have happened.

According to the blog, the most effective way to stop your holiday panics is to create proof of your safe home before you leave.

Lifehacker suggests taking photos of your stove dials, closed garages, unplugged beauty appliances, and light switches and adding the images to a “vacation-ready” photo album on your phone.

That way, when you start getting angry about the potential disaster that might be waiting for you back home, all you have to do is flip through your photo album to remind yourself that everything is fine.

“The important thing is that it works,” wrote the author of the tip, Nicole Dieker.

“I can think about how fun the holiday will be instead of mentally retracing my steps and hoping they stopped in front of the stove.

“Also – as a bonus – if something happens to my apartment while I’m away, I have photo proof that it wasn’t because I accidentally left the stove on or left the window open.”

According to a 2005 study, this method could be more effective than double checking for several reasons psychology today.

According to psychologist Adam Radomsky, repeated checking actually encourages doubt by making things harder to remember.

“The more you verify something, the less vivid and detailed it is, and the less secure you are in your memory,” Radomsky said.
