1000 pound sisters Stars Amy and Tammy Slaton have documented their respective weight loss journeys on TLC for three seasons. But so far none of them have been very successful in their quest to get well. And the explosive season three finale made it clear that things are only going to get worse. Now – before season 4 – Some fans are asking TLC to cancel 1000 pound sisters. Here’s why.
The “1000 pound sisters” have vowed to regain their health for years
When fans watched Season 1 of 1000 pound sisters, both Amy and Tammy vowed their mission was to get their health back — and they had high weight-loss ambitions. By the end of season one, Amy had lost enough weight to have bariatric surgery. But by Season 3, she had reached a plateau. And both she and Tammy fell short of their weight loss goals.
In the Season 3 finale, Tammy lost her ability to breathe and was taken to the hospital. And fans have been waiting to find out what’s next for the Slaton family. But some fans are done watching Tammy and Amy fight.
Why are some fans asking TLC to cancel the show before Season 4?
Three seasons in 1000 pound sisters and neither Amy nor Tammy have made much progress in their weight loss journeys. Instead, due to the reality series, Tammy has received unhealthy attention and been surrounded by enablers. And the exploitation of the sisters’ health problems is becoming harder and harder to ignore.
Has the Slaton family produced compelling television in the past three years? For sure. But some fans are realizing that working as TV personalities while trying to lose weight and get healthy isn’t helping Amy or Tammy achieve their goals. You haven’t even used any of the bariatric resources for this TLC has made available to them. Therefore, many fans hope that the broadcaster will cancel 1000 pound sisters.
Additionally, following Season 3, fans have learned via social media that Amy and Tammy continue to struggle and are not keeping up with their weight loss goals. In fact, the scale goes the other way. Amy prepares for the birth of her second baby. While Tammy is still trying to regain her ability to breathe, she is in rehab to lose weight.
Some fans don’t think another season of 1000-Lb Sisters would be ethical
Viewers are still keen on Amy and Tammy’s story, but some believe the Slaton family would be better off staying away from TLC cameras. A Reddit The user recently confessed, “I kinda hope so 1000 pound sisters is cancelled.”
“It’s obvious that Tammy and Amy and the whole family are plagued with mental illness. At some point, a long time ago, tlc crossed the line between helping Tammy (everyone but Tammy) or hurting Tammy just for being on the show,” another Redditor wrote.
“Obviously Tammy can’t handle this newfound fame that she has and it will likely contribute to her death far more than anything else. She’s clearly being trotted out and exploited like a fucked up freak show carnival or an old ass elephant in a circus. TlC is basically inciting their deaths and no one is raising any serious ethical concerns.”
1000 pound sisters currently paused. Season 4 hasn’t started filming yet.
