Why is Russian vodka trending?
Russian vodka is currently trending amid the outbreak of Russian President Putin’s war against Ukraine.
As a sign of their distaste for war, Americans are taking small steps to protest against Russia by getting Russian vodka off the shelves of retailers and bars.
On February 26, 2022, the governors of states such as Texas, New Hampshire and Ohio pointed to several lawmakers ordering the removal of Russian spirits from their store shelves.
Despite targeting vodka, a quintessential Russian liquor, it looks like it could have a big impact on Russian sales; only 1.2% of US vodka actually comes from the Slavic country itself.
Those participating in the vodka boycott should ensure that the vodka they are pouring and taking off the shelf is indeed Russian before doing so.
