FOOTAGE has surfaced of Republican Congresswoman Madison Cawthorn calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “thug”.
On April 9th, 2022 the North Carolina Representative will speak at Donald Trump’s Save America rally in Selma.
Why is Madison Cawthorn in a wheelchair?
It hasn’t stopped him from climbing the political ladder, and he has claimed that the wheelchair itself became a source of inspiration for him.
“My accident has given me new eyes to see and new ears to hear,” he said during a speech at the republican National Convention.
“When I was 20, I thought about giving up. But I knew that I could still make a difference.”
The then 25-year-old delivered the speech after becoming the youngest member since Jed Johnson Jr. was elected to Congress in the 1990s.
Cawthorn is currently the US Representative for North Carolina’s 11th congressional district.
When was Madison Cawthorn’s car accident?
Madison Cawthorn was injured while returning from a spring break trip to Florida in 2014.
The accident happened near Daytona Beach when his friend Bradley Ledford fell asleep at the wheel of a BMQ X3 SUV.
Cawthorn was sitting in the passenger seat with his feet on the dashboard when the SUV crashed into a concrete barrier.
In a 2017 speech, Cawthorn said Ledford left him “in a fiery grave,” but Ledford publicly denied this in 2021, saying he pulled Cawthorn from the wreck.
According to Cawthorn’s testimony, he has “no recollection of the accident”.
Is Madison Cawthorn paralyzed?
The accident in 2014 left Cawthorn partially paralyzed from the waist down.
He can only use his legs to a limited extent.
Since then, however, he has been depicted standing – particularly at his wedding Christina Bayardelle on April 3, 2021.
Cawthon also stood up and exited his wheelchair during his speech at the Republican National Convention in August 2020.
“Be radical for our republic, which I stand for,” he said while using a walker and supported by two helpers.
The move was called inspirational by some, but others felt Madison Cawthorn was taking a political hit on those who assembled in protest during the pledge of allegiance.
Washington Week anchor Yamiche Alcindor tweeted at the time: “Madison Cawthorn made it a point to stand up and suggested that all Americans should stand during the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem.
“It was a direct rebuke of the actions of people – including black athletes who are currently suspending games – who were protesting police brutality.”
What did Madison Cawthorn say about Ukraine?
While it is unclear where video footage of Madison Cawthorn speaking about Ukraine was taken, the young politician addressed the ongoing conflict in Europe in early March 2022.
He later appeared to retract his comments, tweet: “The actions of Putin and Russia are disgusting.”
However, he attempted to justify the original remarks by saying, “Leaders, including Zelensky, should NOT spread misinformation about America.”
However, the young pro-Trump politician is no stranger to controversy.
On March 3, 2022, Cawthorn was pulled over and charged with driving on a revoked license for a second time.
Cawthorn, 26, is also facing two speeding violations in other counties.
He has also been accused of sexual misconduct by several women.
In 2021, he escaped without charge or fine for attempting to board a plane with a Glock 9mm handgun.
