CLINTON, NC (WNCN) – The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said a shooting at a party near Clinton over the weekend left one man dead and three others wounded.

said the deputies it happened just before 3am on Sunday at block 100 of Veteran’s Lanewhich is just southeast of Clinton.

Octavia Parker said it was her cousin who was shot during the party he was throwing.

“Everybody’s just trying to figure out why,” Parker said.

She told CBS 17 he’s in his late 20s, and despite being younger than her, he often feels like a big brother.

“He was always trying to keep everyone on track,” Parker said. “That was one of my dearest cousins.”

MPs said one person was in critical condition and two others were being treated for injuries.

According to a sheriff’s office spokesman, the approximately 200-strong private party was held in a building by the Kirtwood Park pool that people can rent.

Nancy Miller lives next door and was woken up by gunshots.

“I knew it was a loud party, but I didn’t know it was going to cost anyone their lives, it was horrible,” she said.

The sheriff’s office said the party had private security and most people were gone when the deputies arrived.

“I know a lot of people won’t say what happened or feel like they need to help, but I just wish that people who loved him would just support his mother like he showed them support.” said Parker.

The investigations are ongoing.
