Why are Applebee ads going viral?

CNN was also criticized when Applebee’s ads were broadcast online.

The cause of the viral trend is not the content of the ad, but rather the time.

Many on Twitter were shocked that CNN or Applebee’s would show the ad during a live broadcast of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Viral ads are broadcast in a smaller box in the breaking news frame of the invasion.

CNN News Rail had the passage: “AIR RAID SIRENS RING RA IN Capital’S UKRAINE.”

After an overhead shot of the city was shown, an Applebee’s trailer was played.

The restaurant’s advertisement was played with a tune of country song: “A bit of fried chicken.”

The song continues: “cold beer on a Friday night and a pair of jeans that fit.”

What are people saying about Applebee ads?

Immediately after the fried chicken ad aired, people took to Twitter to share their thoughts.

Many see this as an ironic satire of the state of the country.

One user wrote: “WW3 sponsored by Applebees. We’re living in an episode of South Park.”

The tweet gained traction almost immediately and now has more than 77k likes.

Another user clapped at the sarcastic comment.

“Educate yourself. That ad is part of an ad bought weeks or months ago,” another user wrote.

“Applebees doesn’t even know exactly when it will air. That’s how buy-in works. The responsible party is @CNN. It’s their job to look for such issues before they air.”

What is happening in Ukraine?

In response to the invasion, President Joe Biden announced that day that the US and its European allies would launch a new round of sanctions against Russia.

Biden’s plan would target Russia’s biggest banks and wealthy individuals while isolating the country from the global economy.

The US said Russia provided no explanation for the troop mobilization posted in the months before the suspected invasion began.
