Comedian and writer Baddiel appeared on the ITV series on Wednesday (February 2) to talk about argument Surrounded Sister action star, who has been suspended since The View for saying the Holocaust is “not about race”.
Goldberg, who was make two apologies, said on Monday’s (January 31) episode of the US talk show: “As soon as you make it a race, it’s going down this alley. Let’s talk about it to know what it is. That’s how people treat each other. That is the problem.”
Regarding Goldberg’s comments, Baddiel said GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray: “The problem with it is that there are so many issues – and I’m a fan of Whoopi Goldberg – but there’s a lot of problems with what she says. It reveals a lot of terrible things about the confusion people have around anti-Semitism explored in my book.
“One of the fundamental things going on here is resistance to the idea that xenophobia is racist,” he continued. “Whoopi Goldberg thinks that is what? What many people think is religious intolerance.”
Baddiel’s Book, Jews do not countexplores his thesis that “those who think they are on the right side of history often overlook the history of anti-Semitism” and that “Jews are not considered a true minority” .
Above GMB, he continued by saying that “the Nazis were not interested in faith; they care about racial purity”.
“There is one particular thing that I think is going on here,” he explains. “The white skin of the Jews is a very complicated thing.”

He said that “for centuries … far-right groups have viewed Jews as not part of the white race”, adding that “on the left side, the association of the Jews, a sort of thing. racist, with power and privilege that make them super white”.
“The bottom line is it takes away the specifics of racism into something very bland and generic,” says Baddiel. But what is happening here is a very special kind of genocide.”
He also questioned Goldberg’s comments about The Late Show With Steven Colbertin which she describes the Holocaust as “two sides at war”.
“This is not two sides fighting; Baddiel says that this is an ethnic group marked as going to be destroyed by a military industrial machine.
The Holocaust is broadly defined as the Nazi-approved act of extermination of Jews throughout Europe during World War II. It is estimated that around six million Jews were killed, as well as millions more including foreigners, the disabled and homosexuals.
The Nazi persecution of Jews was clearly due to race, rather than religion. “Judenpolitik” is not only targeting Jewish converts, but also people who have converted to Christianity and those with Jewish grandparents.
Goldberg has been widely criticized for her comments, which have been described as “ignorant” and “dangerous”.
Baddiel, however, was praised for his measured response on GMB.
“That’s a very clever and eloquent explanation by David Baddiel,” one viewer said on Twitter, and another added: “Well done! @Baddiel for calling this out and explaining it to the world so eloquently. “
One viewer thanked Baddiel “for always being able to articulate what I’m feeling but struggling to explain or make others understand”.
