Ten Hag, 52, will leave his post as Ajax boss to join United and says while it was a ‘difficult’ decision he is excited at the prospect of managing at Old Trafford next season.
“It is a great honor to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am really looking forward to the challenge ahead.
“Knowing the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, I am fully committed to building a team capable of achieving the success it deserves.
“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years and I can assure our fans of my full commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I join Manchester United.”
Who is Man Utd assistant Mitchell van der Gaag?
Mitchell van der Gaag was born on October 22, 1971 making him 50 years old.
The Dutchman is currently Ten Hag’s assistant at Ajax and could potentially fill the same role for United.
Van der Gaag has been Ten Hag’s assistant since the summer of 2021 after being promoted from the Ajax reserve.
A former player, centre-back Van der Gaag is best known on these banks for his spell at Motherwell between 1995 and 1997.
Van der Gaa started his playing career at PSV in 1989 before retiring at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in 2007.
He was never a full international for the Netherlands but played for them at U21 level.
