MUNIRA MIRZA has stepped down from Boris Johnson’s role as policy director after disapproving of his ‘slander’ towards Keir Starmer.
Munira Mirza serves as the No 10 head of policymaking and was appointed to investigate racial and ethnic disparities in British society.
Who is Munira Mirza?
Ms Mirza was born in Oldham, Greater Manchester to Pakistani parents and has two brothers and one sister.
After studying at Breeze Hill School and Oldham Sixth Form College, she went to the University of Oxford, where she read English Literature at Mansfield College, graduating in 1999.
She then completed a Master’s degree in social studies in 2004 and a PhD in sociology in 2009 at the University of Kent.
After a series of jobs, including working at the Royal Society of Arts, she worked for Boris Johnson – then Mayor of London.
She advised the Mayor on priorities for culture and education and led the delivery of key programmes, including £40m education and youth investment in London.
Why did Munira Mirza abandon Boris Johnson’s government?
Munira Mirza resigned hours after the Prime Minister made a speech regarding Keir Starmer.
Munira Mirza informed the Prime Minister that he was wrong to imply that Starmer was “personally responsible” for not prosecuting Jimmy Saville, Spectator report.
Munira claims to have advised Mr Johnson to apologize but said that “despite my urging, you have not apologized for the misleading impression you have given.”
She resigned as Johnson’s policy director and explained that it was too late
Munira Mirza is married and does she have children?
Ms Mirza is married to Dougie Smith, speechwriter for former Prime Minister David Cameron – and now works as an adviser and opposition strategist to Boris Johnson.
They had a son together in 2013.
