He came to power at the age of 39, making him the youngest president in US history France.
Macron was an investment banker and economy minister under the socialist François Hollande.
He was even dubbed the outgoing president’s political protégé before breaking up and founding En Marche! in April 2016.
Macron has portrayed himself as a willful outsider of the political system, but he has been criticized for doing so very few policies detailed during the campaign.

Brigitte confirmed to Paris Match magazine last year that Macron had vowed to marry her when he was just 17.
The President married his wife in 2007 after Brigitte’s previous marriage ended in divorce.
Macron is now the stepfather to his wife’s three adult children, including their son Sebastien, who is two years older.
Daughter Tiphaine, 30, is a lawyer and also works on her stepfather’s campaign.

In brands! was founded on April 6, 2016 by Emmanuel Macron and means “Forward!” in English.
The President described his new party as a progressive movement aiming to unite left and right.
It is a declared pro-European organization that won an absolute majority in the National Assembly in France after other parties left.
After Macron was elected President, they changed the party to La République en Marche!.
What policies did Emmanuel Macron pursue in 2017?
Macron has often been criticized for not disclosing details of his policies.
The pro-EU candidate has repeatedly said he wants to create a new type of politics without party structures, although it is unclear how this would be achieved.
Among the policies, he listed a nearly $54 billion investment plan for job training, a shift to renewable energy infrastructure, and modernization.
He also pledged to cut corporate taxes, cut unemployment from 9.7 percent to 7 percent and introduce local tax exemptions on about $11 billion worth of residential property.
Macron has also proposed a ban on school phone use for under-15s, which was imposed in September 2018.
In June 2018, Macron announced plans to bring back compulsory military service for young people in France to “teach them discipline”.
All 16-year-olds would have to participate in some form of civic duty by enlisting in the army, air force, or navy.
How was Macron elected President of France in 2017?
Emmanuel Macron and anti-immigration leader Marine Le Pen started it Final duel for the French Presidency on April 24, 2017after the first ballot knocked out the Republican and Socialist candidates.
The couple went head-to-head in a televised debate just days before France went to the voting booths. A poll conducted almost immediately afterwards found that 63 percent of people found Macron the most compelling, versus 34 percent for Le Pen.
Ahead of the final vote, pundits and pollsters expected a comfortable victory for Macron after an election campaign that left France bitterly divided.
When the results were announced, Macron emerged victorious with 65.5 percent of the vote.
How did Macron’s party fare in the 2017 general election?
Macron has a large majority in the French Parliament for En Marche! in June 2017.
The results of the first round showed they won 32.32 percent – a figure equivalent to 430 seats in the 577-seat parliament.
This compares to 9.5 percent of the vote for the Socialist Party (PS), which has ruled France with Francois Hollande as president for just the past five years.
The outcome had a huge impact on Brexit, placing Macron – who vowed to push through a “hard Brexit” – and his party firmly in the driver’s seat of the country.
Marine Le Pen’s far-right Front National thought they would emerge as the new parliamentary opposition, but got just 13.2 percent.
