TAMPA — Dillon Lawson, who was promoted from minor league hitting coordinator to hitting coach for the Yankees this offseason, is part of the new wave of coaches tasked with taking the teaching of hitting technology to the level where the inclusion of pitching technology took place.
There is now more emphasis within the organization on batting intelligence and analysis, though Lawson said he doesn’t throw everything at Yankees batsmen at once.
After about three weeks of compressed spring training and less than a week to Opening Day, reviews from the Yankees’ hitting coaches — including assistant hitting coach Casey Dykes, who was promoted from Triple-A hitting coach — were positive.
